May I introduce myself? My name is Mr. Rooky and I am your chess mascot. I will gladly accompany you on your interesting journey from "Bewanderter Bauer" to "Kundiger König".
We will have a lot of fun!

We help your child to succeed one move at a time!

We are a chess school for children from the ages of 4-15. We offer personalized lessons to fit your child's needs according to age and performance level. We also offer chess courses/projects to academic institutions beginning at the Kindergarden level. Our course centers are located in Zollikon and Horgen, where we offer classes from Monday through Saturday. Additionally we offer classes in Oerlikon and Zurich-Wollishofen.

Why Chess for kids?

Chess is in many ways like life itself. Life is both an offensive and defensive battle. You must defend your King (or your spirit) while at the same time attack, corner, and dis-empower your opponent’s King. It is a great way to teach children how to handle challenges in a focused, calm, and constructive manner. Aside from having loads of fun, your child will receive many benefits from playing chess. These positive effects have been scientifically proven through multiple research studies in this area. Research studies show that these benefits are achieved most rapidly and successfully through Chess when compared to other disciplines and programs. It is much easier for children to learn and benefit from the advantages of Chess in a classroom setting. Under the supervision of our professional coaches they are able to practice in a secure, comfortable, and organized environment.

Here are three (of the many) reasons why chess is beneficial to children:

1. Chess increases intelligence, attention span and awareness!

The positive effect of chess on the intelligence of children and young people is well documented. Particularly noted is a dramatic improvement in language and cognitive skills through the child’s increasing desire to succeed in his/her endeavors. Also documented is enhanced perception and greater social skills. Unlike popular belief, chess is not a game that is designed only for gifted or highly intelligent children. ... » ALL children can learn to play chess and reap from it’s multiple benefits particularly such as increasing their intellectual potential. Chess teaches children the power of focus and concentration through fun and play. They learn to filter out external distractions (a skill of upmost importance in today's hectic world). This ability is carried into their teen and adulthood aiding them in future academic/professional endeavors. Current studies show that Chess may also be an effective tool in treating children who have been diagnosed with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders (by decreasing their symptoms).««

2. Chess increases self-esteem and self-confidence!

In addition to its intellectual advantages, chess also improves the social development in children. The ability to solve problems increases their self-confidence. Winning the game boosts their self-esteem! The children learn to take responsibility for their actions when faced with a loss and to accept defeat in a poised manner . ... » With time they learn to set up goals and long-term plans for future moves. They are able to calculate possible moves that their opponent might make and integrate this into their game strategy. Children become mentally stronger and are able to apply this to their everyday life because chess teaches them to deal with time pressure, incorrect choices, and unexpected moves. Through fun and play, self-motivation and the desire to succeed are developed and reinforced. As enemies the children learn how to play fairly in a "battle" setting and it is wonderful to see how these "enemies" later turn to friendships in real life that may last a lifetime. ««

3. Chess is fun!

Chess has a way of immediately charming every player! As soon as the chessboard is set up the magic begins to work! A world of infinite possibilities is presented to children. They slip into each character and share their joys and sorrows with them. Chess awakens the adventurous spirit in every child and stimulates their imagination. It is great fun and provides more excitement than any other computer game can!

Special trainings:
We offer special trainings each Wednesday from 6-7pm.

Chess Camps:
We offer chess camps during summer vacations.

Open play hours:
Saturday afternoon from 2pm-4pm we offer open play hours. The children have the possibility to get to know each other and to play a game of chess against each other or against experienced seniors.

Chess4Mum&Dad:
After several demands from parents, we offer from now Monday through Friday from 7pm - 9pm chess classes for Mums and Dads. In case of interest please contact us under info@chess4kids.ch.
